Jailhouselawyer (top blog, by the way) points out that 42 day detention will breach the human rights act. In light of this opinion (this committee is deep-reaching and generally excellent... better than many lawyers, in fact), I must declare opposition to this measure despite the concessions.
At some point, one has to decide whether they support the liberal New Labour who brought you the Human Rights Act, or the authoritarian one which has repeatedly violated it. I stand for the former.

I see those arguments, with which I agree, have been lost on Jon Trickett - according to today's Guardian.
